Cabela's Big Game Hunter 2006 Trophy Season is a hunting game that follows a clear narrative. The player explores diverse North American landscapes with the goal of obtaining trophies in each region. It all begins at the first cabin, where players must acquire initial equipment, including weapons and clothing, adjust their rifle, and obtain hunting permits. To obtain these permits, they must speak to the ranger in each area. Throughout the adventure, the player will encounter random events, side quests, and hunting tournaments. While there are primary objectives that must be completed to advance, secondary objectives are optional.
In the game, huntable mammals are marked with red markers. This marker system is similar to that of its predecessor, Cabela's Big Game Hunter 2005 Adventures. While red markers indicate live animals, blue markers indicate dead animals, and purple markers indicate wounded or special animals. It's important to note that there are certain animals that...

In the game, huntable mammals are marked with red markers. This marker system is similar to that of its predecessor, Cabela's Big Game Hunter 2005 Adventures. While red markers indicate live animals, blue markers indicate dead animals, and purple markers indicate wounded or special animals. It's important to note that there are certain animals that aren't classified as game and aren't marked, such as foxes and rabbits. There are also females of certain species, such as elk or deer, that are unfeasible to hunt. Players must ensure they hunt only the animals for which they have permits, always respecting the specific number allotted.
When using a scope to approach an animal, useful information appears at the bottom of the scope. This displays the type of animal, its sex, the score, and the immediate distance to the player. This information is crucial, especially during hunting tournaments, where specific requirements such as distance or best score are often required. The data changes when hovering the scope over different targets and may even provide statistics for non-game animals while the scope is held over them.
Players must respect the established rules when hunting. Hunting animals for which they do not have a permit, as well as using vehicles to do so, is prohibited. Shooting is also prohibited between 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m., nor within a 50-yard radius of an inhabited building. If these rules are violated, the player receives warnings. Upon accumulating three warnings, they will be asked to leave the area, with the option to restart the level or return to the main menu. These regulations ensure that the player hunts ethically and responsibly within the game.
