Introduction --------------- Thank you for purchasing "Night at the Museum 2". 2. System Requirements ---------------------- This game is designed to run under either Windows XP or Windows Vista. For Windows XP, service pack 2 (SP2) is required. For Windows Vista, service pack 1 (SP1) is required. A 2.0 GHz Intel Pentium 4 (or equivalent) processor, or better, is required. A dual-core processor is recommended. For Windows XP, at least 1 GB of system RAM is required. 2GB is recommended. For Windows Vista, at least 2 GB of system RAM is required. 4GB is recommended. Processor information for your computer can usually be found by doing this: 1) From the Start menu, select Settings->Control Panel 2) From Control Panel, find and open System 3) On the General tab, information about your processor and main memory can be found. Supported video chipsets: NVidia GeForce Series 200, 9800, 9600, 8800, 8600, 8500, 8400, 7900, 7600, 7300, 6800. ATI HD Series 4800, 4600, 3800, 3600, 3400, 2900, 2600, 2400 ATI Series X1900, X1800, X1600, X1300 At least 256MB on the video card is required. 512MB is recommended. Video card information for your computer can usually be found by doing this: 1) From the Start menu, select Settings->Control Panel 2) From Control Panel, find and open Display 3) On the Settings tab, find and click the button labeled Advanced 4) On the Adapter tab, information about your video card chip set and memory can be found. 3. Installation --------------- Run Launch.exe from the game disk, then select "Install". Installing videos is optional. Videos require approximately 2.75GB of additional hard drive space. 4. Configuration ---------------- From the game launcher, select "Configure" to set graphics options. You may reconfigure at any time prior to running the game. The game runs either Fullscreen or as a window on the desktop. For both modes, select an appropriate display resolution from the drop-down lists. The best setting will depend on your machine. Higher resolutions settings (e.g. 1600x900) generally look better, but lower settings (e.g. 800x600) may run faster. Checkboxes: Windowed Mode Check this to start the game in Windowed mode. If not checked, the game will start in Fullscreen mode. When in the game, you can change from one mode to the other at any time by pressing Alt+Enter. Full Screen Anti-aliasing Check this to enable full screen anti-aliasing (FSAA). FSAA, if supported by your video card, makes the display look smoother by removing 'jaggies', but may reduce your framerate. Shadows Check this to show shadows in the game. This may reduce your framerate. Reflections Check this to show reflective floors in the game. This may reduce your framerate. Hi-Res Videos Check this to show the 1280x720 high resolution videos. This may reduce your framerate. Changes to this option while in the game will take effect when the next video starts. 5. Game Play & Controls ------------ You can switch between fullscreen mode and windowed mode at any time through the Options->Video menu. You can also use the Windows shortcut Alt-Enter at any time. To exit game play, bring up the Pause menu by pressing the Esc key or by pressing the mouse wheel. From the Pause menu, select Exit Game and confirm that you wish to exit. This will return you to the Main Menu, where you may again select Exit Game. This will immediately end the application with no confirmation. You may also terminate the application at any time by using the Windows shortcut Alt-F4 which will immediately terminate the application without any confirmation or warning. Disk Space ------------- If you want to have the videos installed on the hard drive to improve performance, after installing them and making a final decision on whether to use the high-resolution videos or the low-resolution videos (see Configuration below), you may delete the videos that you will not be using to save disk space. If you will use the high-resolution videos, you may delete the low resolution videos in the VideoLR folder and save approximately 800Mb of disk space. If you will use the low-resolution videos, you may delete the high resolution videos in the Video folder and save approximately 2Gb of disk space. WARNING: if you delete the wrong folder or change the video option after deleting one of the folders, videos may not play and you may get a black screen when launching the game. 7. Troubleshooting ------------------ Problem: Low framerate. This occurs when the computer's processor and/or video card can't keep up with the amount of data that is being sent to them. There are several things you can do to improve this, although each option has tradeoffs: 1) Reduce the screen resolution. Do this by setting a lower display resolution (see above, in 'Configuration'). For example, if you're playing in Fullscreen mode, reducing the display resolution from 1600x1200 to 800x600 can make a big difference. You will notice that image sharpness will be reduced, however. This can only be done outside the game, through the game launcher's Configuration option. 2) Turn off shadows and reflections. This can be done from the Video Options menu at any time within the game and will take effect immediately. 3) Turn off full screen anti-aliasing (FSAA). This will make the display more pixelated, but may be very acceptable. This can be done from the Video Options menu at any time within the game, but will not take effect until the game is restarted. 4) If videos are not playing smoothly, turn off high resolution videos. This will make the videos more pixelated, but may be very acceptable. This can be done from the Video Options screen at any time within the game, although changes will not take effect until the next video starts. Problem: The game stalls before an in-game video plays. This can occur when the game was installed without videos. To save hard drive space (about 2.75GB), copying of videos to the hard drive is an installation option. If videos aren't copied to the hard drive, they must be read from the game DVD. This can cause delays while the DVD spins up to speed. The solution is to re-install with the videos. Problem: The in-game videos play slowly and/or skip frames. Slower machines may not be able to process video frames fast enough to keep up with the necessary framerate. To improve performance, from either the game launcher "Configure" page or from the in-game Options->Video menu, turn off Hi-Res Videos. This will play alternate lower resolution videos which don't place such a high demand on the computer's processor. The image quality is lower, however.
